Interior painting
One room, a whole floor, or the whole house before the furniture arrives. I prep it, cut the lines by hand and roll the coats myself. Halton, the GTA and Hamilton.
What I paint inside
If it’s inside and takes paint, Houston’s Painting Plus does it: the ordinary jobs and the awkward ones.
Walls & ceilings
Filled, sanded, spot-primed and rolled in two coats. Ceiling first, cut in clean.
Trim, baseboards & crown
Caulked, sanded and brushed to a hard finish that wipes clean. It’s what makes the room look finished.
Doors & closets
Doors, frames and closet interiors, brushed or sprayed. Hardware comes off; it never gets painted over.
Stairwells & hallways
Tall walls, long runs and corners a step-ladder can’t reach. Railings and spindles too.
Feature walls
One wall in a deep colour, or the whole room. I’ll say if it needs a tinted primer.
Popcorn ceiling removal
Popcorn, stipple or stucco: scraped, skimmed, sanded, primed and painted flat. Ceilings from before the mid-1980s get tested for asbestos first.
Wallpaper removal
Stripped, glue washed off, wall skimmed where the paper took the drywall with it. Then primed and painted like new.
Drywall repair & skim coat
Cracks, nail pops, holes and water stains. A skim coat flattens a wall that’s been through a few owners.
Condos & rentals
Move-in and move-out repaints, tenant turnovers, and the neutral colour that helps a place show. Booked around elevator times.
How I prep
Prep is most of the job. Nobody photographs it, but it decides whether the finish still looks right years on.

Clear and cover
Small things out, big things to the middle under plastic. Drop sheets on every floor, tape on everything that isn’t getting paint.

Fill, sand and caulk
Nail pops, cracks, dents and old picture holes filled and sanded flush. Gaps along the trim caulked so the edge is one clean line.

Prime where it’s needed
Bare drywall, patches, stains and big colour changes get primer. Sound walls going to a similar colour usually don’t.

Cut the lines by hand
Ceiling lines, corners and the edge along the trim are brushed freehand, not left to the tape. That edge is what you notice from the doorway.

Two coats, then the walkthrough
Two full coats, rolled the same way so the sheen is even. Then you and I walk every room, lights on, and I touch up whatever you point at.

Sheen, plain English
Sheen is how shiny the paint dries. It changes how the wall catches light, how it wipes, and how much every bump shows.
Which sheen goes where
- Flat or matte: ceilings, bedrooms and living rooms. Hides bumps and roller marks. The least wipeable.
- Eggshell: the default for most walls. A hint of sheen, wipes clean, forgiving of an old wall.
- Satin or pearl: kitchens, bathrooms, hallways and kids’ rooms. Scrubs clean, but every ridge shows a little more.
- Semi-gloss: trim, doors and baseboards. Hard, wipes clean, and shows every flaw underneath.
Colour changes and coats
- Light to a similar light: the easy case. Two coats and it looks new.
- Dark to light: a tinted primer, an extra coat, or both. The quote says which.
- Light to a deep colour: deep reds, navies and charcoals cover poorly. A grey-tinted primer gets there in fewer coats.
- Same colour, fresh coat: still two coats if you want it to look new, not touched up. One coat is for turnovers.
- Picking the colour: a test patch on your wall before you commit. Colours change under your own lights at night.
Questions about inside work
Will the house smell of paint?
A little, for a day or so. Water-based wall paint is mild; with a window cracked it’s mostly gone by morning. Low-VOC and zero-VOC paint is available; ask when I quote.
What happens to my furniture?
Move the small things and anything breakable. I shift the big pieces to the middle and cover them, or carry them out if agreed. Nothing goes back until the walls are dry.
How long does a room take?
Prep decides it more than size. A room in good shape going to a similar colour is quick; heavy patching or a big colour change takes longer. The quote gives you the days, not a guess.
Can I stay home while you paint?
Yes, most people do. I work one room at a time, keep the path to the kitchen and bathroom clear, and tidy up every evening. Or leave me a key and I’ll lock up.
